1 teaspoon (6g) salt 1/2 lemon Here’s a quick and easy way to remove rust spots from small chrome appliances, utensils, or bicycle handles. Simple sprinkle salt on the cut side of the lemon half and rub over the rust spots. Repeat is necessary. Rinse thoroughly with water and dry with a soft cloth.
All grease spots must be washed off and any rust removed, and the stove must be cold. Mix black lead with vinegar to a creamy consistency and apply to the metal areas of the stove or fireplace. Polish with a stiff brush when nearly dry.
Wiping down clean metal surfaces with a vinegar solution (1 part vinegar to 5 parts water) prepares the surface for painting and reduces the incidence of peeling.
